Just a quick Tuesday post for the masses
Obviously there was no show Sunday night (Thanks Irene!). Thanks to the "Hurricane" that ran through New England I was unable to get to the WMHB studios but from what I understand, the station is still on the air and in one piece. Next week is Labor Day so that means no so either, which sucks. After 2 weeks away we'll be back on September 11th. I'm sure I'll have some sort of memorial show by then, I've got enough time to plan one out.
Hopefully in the next coming weeks I'll be financially able to move the show into my new home studios and broadcast 24/7. What that means for WMHB, I have no idea, I'm going on two weeks without a reply about a question I had regarding the fall season. It being a student run radio station, we'll see what happens now that the college kids are back in school, but don't be surprised if the Krypt goes online only in the next couple of months.
Hey, stalk us won't ya? Twitter is @kentskrypt. Like us on Facebook, friend up on Myspace and tell 3 friends about us
Classic rock with an edge! That's what we like to play. From the classics of the Stones, Cream & Jimi to the newer rock like Nirvana, STP & Creed, plus the power pop of Journey (Don't Stop Believing, not Faithfully) and other bands that know how to play a guitar.

The End?
Happy Monday peeps (if that is at all possible)
Playlist will be up at some point today or tomorrow but this morning I got to thinking:
The end is soon for the FM show.
I always planned on the FM show (heard locally on the 110 watt blowtorch 89.7 WMHB in Waterville Maine) to be a starting point for a full 24 hour a day internet radio station.
With that being said, the FM show has been great. I'm having fun and I hope you are too in listening or reading this blog.
Here comes the BUT part
I don't think the FM show is helping in the long run. It's a hobby, meaning I'm not compensated in any way. The studio is 30 miles away. I can't load up my computer and play what I want to play whenever. I burn my material on to CDs, play their CDs and run other stuff, including songs, off their system. It's fun, but it takes more time then it should and I think all of us, me included, would have a more enjoyable time listening (and me running the thing) if I could do all this from my home studio, play by my own rules and call up whatever music I could instantly, rather than burn CDs and travel.
Don't take this as discouragement on my part at all. I love the radio show, and the potential for the internet station, but when you haven't heard from station management all summer and receive no promotion from their end, it's a little disheartening. I may have loyal fans that listen every week (Thank You BTW) and may be ranting for no reason, but I have no feedback from anyone beyond your typical "friends and family" group. I want Kent's Krypt to be something more. By hooking up with an internet streaming site and running the station under a different set of rules (rather than take the show on the road to speak from another station's studios) I think it will sound much better, and will be able to listen at your convenience rather than have a small broadcast window of 2 hours on a Sunday night.

How I create the new Krypt
Expect big changes with the Krypt in the coming weeks. If you've listened the last two weeks on 89.7 and wmhb.org you've already heard part of the change to a more classic/hard rock approach.
That's the way it's going to be.
Here's my philosophy on the new internet radio venture:
Start with a classic rock station, shave away the weak soft stuff (Brown Eyed Girl, Teach Your Children Peaceful Easy Feeling and For What It's Worth are great songs, but on classic rock radio? Not in this 28 year old's mind)
Throw in the 80's and 90's (something that's largely missing on classic rock radio). Nirvana, GnR, Metallica and the Foo Fighters are great "newer" classic rock bands, and their music fits next to the Stones, Who and AC/DC
Add some flavor like metal and guitar driven pop music. Journey may be a soft band overall, but you can play "Don't Stop Beleivin'" or "Stone in Love" without killing your listening experience. The same can be said with harder edged Michael Jackson. "Beat It" was played on Album Rock radio in the mid 80's because Eddie Van Halen played guitar on the track, they just billed it as "Van Halen featuring Michael Jackson"
That's how I came to "3 and a half decades of rock without the soft stuff" Classic rock radio is great, but the mood is killed when something like For What It's Worth is played. You can call Kent's Krypt a classic rock station, but it's got more variety than that. The base of the Krypt is classic rock, then I add the igredients. You can help me by e-mailing me requests, suggestions and feedback at kent@kentskrypt.com. I'd love to hear from you...

The Krypt's inaugural movie blog.
I see movies regularly. Usually one a week in theatres, and a couple on TV or Netflix.
So with that said, I thought it'd be a good idea to start a movie review blog. Who knows? Maybe it it catches on it will get it's own section.
This weekend I saw the reboot of "Planet of the Apes" or as we will call it "Rise of the Planet of the Apes"
Overall I'd give it a B+, the effects aren't overly spectacular (and neither is the acting) but it gets the job done. I'll warn you that the movie starts slow. Right before the film really gets going I asked myself, "Where's the conflict?" Then I got it and the movie took off, decently I might add. The sound mixing is great, better than the acting and the visual effects. The apes look realistic on close ups but look a bit animated when monkeying around, pun intended. Overall the movie is worth watching, after a slow start it keeps going. It may be a slow starting movie, but it doesn't get overly ridiculous where you want to walk out or scream out loud, "Where's the action".
I'll get better at these blog entries, it's a start. Until then, there's Twitter. 140 characters is a bit easier than a blog entry for me right now, but I'll work on that.
Talk to ya on the radio side of things.
